Grace Exley is a multidisciplinary Surface Pattern artist whose work is inspired by the way in which we experience the natural world. Walking is integral to her practice and informs the drawings, paintings and patterns that she uses within her work.
Grace’s practice is situated within natural environments, rejecting the urban, immersing herself within her surroundings. The main sites for the walks she undertakes are Welsh landscapes; long stretching coastlines, the well-known Brecon Beacons with rolling hills leading to rockfaces and waterfalls.
Grace’s artworks are deeply personal and relate to the experience she has had on a particular walk and her response to a site, resembling remembered moments unique to her. The work produced take on a new experience for their audience promoting feeling of the strangely familiar.
