Maelstrom: Visions Beyond Myself is a collection of self-portraits that depict a distorted and chaotic version of myself as I experience my own maelstrom. I have not experimented with photography before, however I felt drawn to it as it has been the only medium that has allowed me to spontaneously capture my immediate emotions. On several levels, I feel a certain vulnerability towards the photographs as I have depicted a very personal side of myself as the main focus. In the photograph’s I am reacting to a period of sadness and confusion within my home setting, but also to the surreal chaos we are each experiencing due to Covid-19. Although my photographs are unlike any of my previous work, I feel that they are appropriate and honest as this period of my life is also unlike anything I have experienced.
