ABOUT LIBBI

This series of pen drawings is based on an ongoing development of a comic series based around the concept of desire and violence, how they influence humanity, and what it means to be human. The portraits show each of the main characters found within the story and were created based on different human desires such as independence, acceptance, honour, status, and tranquillity.

The concept for this project stemmed from my interest in comics, graphic novels, and the interesting lore behind the mythical wendigo creatures. Wendigos which roughly translates to “the evil spirit that devours mankind” were the basis for this concept because I was fascinated by the lore in which wendigos were created because of man’s innate desire to survive, and so would resort to cannibalism. This mythology got me to think about what truly makes someone human or monster, and whether or not the strong desire for violence was really ingrained in human nature, and so I began the process of delving into the story of human desires and our capacity for becoming monsters.
