ABOUT GARIN

Sensory Spacetime

Following geologist Ralph Alger Bagnold’s research on the subject, my praxis attempts to visualise the theory that spacetime may be granular at the smallest of scales. Matter constantly traverses spacetime, hopping from one particle to another, seemingly invisible to the naked eye, just as the eye cannot comprehend the voluminous quantity of sand particles that comprise a dune. Inspired by the meticulous paintings of Vija Celmins, I fabricate images of the night sky utilising the random pattern of fallen grains of sand, punctiliously puncturing corresponding holes in order to recreate another version of a night sky, never before experienced, once light is directed at the work.
