The title ‘… and Desire’ has informed my love of pattern and colour and I have used this as a starting point in which to produce a piece of work composed of many separate circular components. As part of the research, I have investigated the significance of the circular, as mandala; eternal and ritualistic, as well as paisley pattern as a design motif. The artist Yoyoi Kasama has proved significant for her obsessive use of the circular motif, as a repetitive and hand drawn element. Further to this, decadent use of pattern, surface and colour has also been considered. Fundamentally, the final work could take on many forms – it could both decrease and increase in scale and encompass many different visual forms. However, for exhibition I have chosen to compose my elements into a loose wave pattern.
