ABOUT ALICE

My work explores themes of femininity and the female gaze.

I explored ‘… and Desire’ through divine femininity, considering female empowerment in relation to its portrayal in art. I researched feminist artists who have raised awareness of gender, femininity, and the female gaze, women’s bodies, minds, and impact on society through feminist issues, campaigns and protest.

I became aware of the iconic red handprint, printed over the mouth of protestors which is a symbol of solidarity for missing and murdered Indigenous women in North America. This demographic is up to 10 times more likely to be murdered or assaulted while also being less likely to be believed or assisted by law enforcement, in comparison with white women in the US.
